A triumphant preview of the Mars Inc. Essex Horse Trials

Even before yesterday evening’s Invitational Derby Cross competition at Moorland Farm in Far Hills, I knew there wasn’t going to be just one winner.

I’m talking big picture here, not who was taking home the blue ribbon for what basically was an exhibition. The Derby Cross and accompanying cocktail party heralded the return of the iconic Mars Essex Horse Trials in 2017 at a new location.

Essex, last held in 1998 at Hamilton Farm in Gladstone, home of the U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation, was a major fixture on the circuit and its many supporters keenly felt the loss when it was discontinued.

Monmouth at the Team Announces Move to USET Headquarters.

Gladstone, N.J. – May 13, 2016 – Experience horse showing at its finest August 15-21, 2016, by joining the area’s top professional, amateur and junior athletes during Monmouth at the Team. This week long hunter/jumper event is set to be held in the main ring at historic Hamilton Farm, the United States Equestrian Team Foundation Headquarters in Gladstone, New Jersey. The show, formerly known as the Monmouth County Horse Show, will marry the tradition of the 121 year show, a long-time staple on the East Coast show circuit, with the history and prestige of Hamilton Farm, creating a wonderful opportunity for area riders to experience competition at this world-class facility. Monmouth at the Team is gearing up for a special show

Monmouth at the Team was always a go for Aug. 15-21, but now it has approval from the U.S. Equestrian Federation.

This ambitious project, moving New Jersey’s oldest horse show from the multi-ring Horse Park of New Jersey to the U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation headquarters in Gladstone, Somerset County, will be highlighted by Level 3 jumper competition with more than $25,000 in prize money. HorseFlight is presenting a $10,000 mini-prix.
